Donation helps east anglian youngsters set sail

January 2014

Aspiring sailors from the East Anglian Sailing Trust (EAST) have been kitted out with new waterproof clothing, thanks to a generous donation from local heating oil supplier, Pace Fuelcare.

The club, based at Suffolk Yacht Harbour, Levington, was established in 1996 and offers sailing experiences for disabled people of all ages and their carers.

Pace Fuelcare, on Latimer Close, Ipswich, donated £300 to the club after Danny Thorrington applied to the company for funding to purchase the new kit for the ‘Discoverers’. The ‘Discoverers’ group is made up of 200 young people who have access to weekly clubs across 18 schools and colleges in Ipswich and South Suffolk, in addition to activity days in school holidays.

The donation was made as part of Pace Fuelcare’s sports bursary scheme which aims to support groups across East Anglia.

Danny said: “The donation has helped us to buy the high quality clothing that will keep our young Discoverers warm and dry. The kit also means that the members will look and feel like a team, helping to raise their confidence.

“The EAST relies totally on volunteers, so support such as this from Pace Fuelcare is essential and really makes a difference to the experience we can provide for these young people.”

Keith Durrant, regional manager at Pace Fuelcare, said: “The EAST and its Discoverers scheme is a real asset to East Anglia, as it really encourages disabled people to get involved in an exciting activity and learn new skills.

“As a longstanding supplier to the region, providing heating oil and diesel to rural and remote communities, Pace Fuelcare launched its sports bursary scheme for groups across the local area that can struggle for public funding.

“As a local business, it’s important that we give something back to these clubs and we’re glad that we were able to extend our support.”
